Eco Island

Solar Thermal

Many of you may know that I helped initiate the Eco Island Vision working alongside the CEO and others within the Council to fuel the fires of sustainability on the Isle of Wight and move us towards energy self sufficiency by 2020. With an interest in the Eco Island Conference and having played a large part in the Big Green Picnic I was able to see first-hand how motivated Island residents are to “do the right thing” and commit to renewable energy solutions.

I was so inspired with the Eco Island vision that I have embarked on a whole programme of renewable energy installation at my home. With Solar PV already installed and plans to install Solar Thermal, a Bio-Mass boiler, rainwater harvesting and under-floor heating I hope to be effectively energy self sufficient by the end of 2009. There has been a great deal of talk about what is best and how we as an Island might take steps towards improved sustainability but I decided it was time for individual action and that it was better to just to put a foot forward on the basis that action speaks louder than words. As my plans for energy self sufficiency take shape I hear talk of the grid not being able to cope with demandI'm Solar Powered

in years to come and energy prices rising astronomically which further fueled my

conviction that I was doing the right thing.

3greenlights.com is currently working to raise the profile of Eco-Island and to promote the installation of renewable energy technology across the IOW . Working with individuals, public bodies, charities and business managers we are involved in a number of Projects that should make a significant contribution to the Island’s sustainability in years to come. Working with professionals on the installation side and providing information via the GREENtank and Eco-Island website 3GL provides up-to-date and relevant information on grants and alternative funding sources to assist with the costs of installations. As one of the motivators behind the Eco-Island Vision we support the aim of making the Island the first truly sustainable region in the UK and using that as a motivator from inward investment from business re-location / tourism / people moving to the Island to live. Blessed with some of the cleanest air, some of the best beaches / walks / cycle rides and surrounded by water and its related sports we are fast becoming a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers and environmentalists

… the IOW is fast becoming the PLACE TO BE !!

Eco Show Home

To provide some insight into what it is like to GO GREEN we are going to be providing access to our show home which demonstrates how all the renewable technologies can work together to provide a sustainable lifestyle. There is information here on the choice of technologies involved and how they have been integrated with one another along with grant information and some anecdotal evidence of how it is all working.

If you are interested in fitting renewables to your business or home and want to contact us for some impartial advice - then you can reach us via our contacts page by clicking here.
