3GL was engaged to help develop Corum's Global Sponsorship Strategy. In discussions with the President, Michael Wunderman, and on the back of the recent success with the Gipsy Moth Project, 3GL originated and implemented a new programme of sponsored events. Using nearly 3 decades of experience in the marine industry 3GL has been able to maximize the exposure in a wide range of media. With a portfolio of events which span the globe Corum's return to major sailing sponsorship has been welcomed by Class associations and major names in the boating business. With their history of association with the Admiral's Cup and their hard earned reputation as the "Watchmakers of the Sea" it was easy to evolve a strategy that built on their former success in this field.

The event that heralded Corum's return to the arena of major sailing sponsorship was the 32nd Americas Cup in Valencia as a sponsor of Victory Challenge. With branding including 3 spinnakers, logo on the boom, branding on the base and a VC / Corum Boutique opened at the VC base the sponsorship was an amazing success securing the 2nd highest PR values of any Team in the Cup across a wide range of media. The images of the Corum genniker were broadcast around the world across numerous networks as Victory Challenge battled it out for the Semi-final place with the Spanish Team.

More recently Corum have announced their sponsorship of Conrad Humphreys Extreme 40 and his appointment as their Ambassador of the Sea. Conrad will be campaigning his Extreme 40 in the iShares Events across Europe and will also be engaged in a number of Extreme 40 exhibition events. Conrad has gone on to compete in the Calais Round Britain Race with the legendary sailor Bernard Stamm and will go on to compete in the Barcelona World Race in November this year talking the Corum brand onto another level with the Open 60 campaign.

On the back of the extra-ordinary return of Gipsy Moth IV ( in which 3GL paid a significant part ) Corum's profile was raised another notch and with a Homecoming Dinner organized by 3GL at the Royal Western Yacht Club the brand was once again in the public eye. 3GL have engaged Gipsy Moth IV in a number of other Corum events including a visit to the Royal Guernsey Yacht Club and the Royal Belfast yacht Club later this year. With a number of other Corum sponsored events to be announced later this year 3GL will be helping to establish Corum as the yachtsman's chronograph of choice and raise the profile of the brand around the globe.

The wide range of distinctive, sophisticated Corum watch models attracts the most astute watch collectors, as well as those who appreciate complicated and precise movements, thus combining "the noble watchmaking tradition of the 18th century with new technologies of the 21st century". Recently, the Corum watch company became recognized for their risks in timekeeping innovation and excellence.
2008 Corum Sponsorship Programme:
Official Supplier Skandia Cowes Week:
3GL paved the way for Corum to become an Official Supplier to Skandia Cowes Week in 2008. With a combination of branding and product placement Corum took centre stage during some of the prize givings and were able to secure some unique PR opportunities as a result. The visibility of the Corum brand was considerable and the option is there to continue the relationship for future years.

Corum Hospitality Programme:
3GL organised a 3-day hospitality programme in Skandia Cowes Week for a number of top level journalists in the style press and some Corum Executives from Switzerland. The Programme included a day watching the racing aboard the luxury Yacht Halcyon ( www.halcyonyachtcharter.com ). The guests spent some time viewing the last day of the Extreme 40 Grand Prix which gave rise to some spectacular capsize activity and were then taken back to their Hotel in time to change and be transferred to the VIP reception at the Ellen MacArthur Trust Ball. The following day saw them as guests for lunch at the Royal Yacht Squadron where they were treated to a tour of the Racing platform by John Grandy, Chairman of Cowes Week Limited, and dinned alongside HRH The Duke of Edinburgh who was in attendance at the lunch in his capacity as Commodore of the Club.

Corum comes onboard as Official Sponsor of Ben Ainslie:
Ben Ainslie is one of the most successful sailors in history. With 3 Olympic Gold Medals and a Silver from Atlanta Ben is already in the record books as Britain's No.1 sailor. With the Olympics in China on the horizon and another medal a strong possibility 3GL led Corum to sign up as one of Ben's individual sponsors. Alongside his main sponsor JP Morgan and official clothing sponsor Henri Lloyd, Corum are his Official watch supplier and will be working with him all the way through to the London Olympics in 2012. With a series of adverts planned and a number of appearance days and photo shoots agreed Ben is set to become the face of Corum's Maritime Range. It is hard to imagine any better ambassador for a brand than Ben who received one of his first sponsorship fees ever from 3GL Director David Green back in 1995 during his preparations for the Atlanta Olympics. I am sure we all wish Ben well in his build up to 2012 and in his role as the Skipper of Team Origin, Britain's America's Cup Team challenge.

3GL orchestrated Corum's return to the arena of major sailing sponsorship, from their advent at the America's Cup through the excitement of CHR's Extreme 40 through to Official Supplier status with Skandia Cowes Week and becoming an Official Partner in Ben Ainslie's campaign. We helped open doors, negotiate contracts, design and deliver hospitality programmes and afford Corum a very privileged position at the sponsorship table. The brand has now consolidated its position as the Watchmakers of the Sea and 3GL have very much enjoyed helping them get there.
